Welcome to the Month of Novembers "Photo of the Day" Gallery. November has always been a favorite month of mine because it contains several cool days to include my birthday on the 23rd, Thanksgiving which falls on my birthday every 7 years, my youngest daughters B-Day on the 3rd, Veterans Day which I am proud to be one of and also Black Friday the biggest shopping day of the year! Hopefully the weather will stay a little on the warmer side so I can get some out door shooting done along the way but since November also holds one of my most hated days of the year, the END of Daylight Savings Time, I may not see too many outdoor shooting days LOL See it's a give & take situation now that winter has arrived and I hate to give up any of my out doors photography time. Please pray for Spring to arrive soon so that I can smile & be happy again :)
I hope you all enjoy the month of November & the holidays it brings and Thank You for visiting my Photo of the Day project. I will continue to strive in taking vibrant & interesting images this month so please stop by and say hello along with leaving your comments on your favorite images.

Hello All . . I just threw up a quick image to set a new page up to report that I have been in contact with our very own HERSHY (HARSH) who as most of you know lives in INDIA where the terror attacks are taking place currently. I had been trying to contact him most of the night as soon as the reports started coming in late this afternoon and finally got ahold of him via email.
He wanted me to thank you all for your concern and to please understand that he can not contact everyone individually at this point because of the situation which is taking place only about 5 miles from his home and a terrorist was in fact killed only about a 1/2 mile from his home as well. He has friends & aquaintances that have been taken hostage and some that have excaped. Instead of me trying to repeat all this I'm going to post his email to me for you all to read, this way he only has to write to one person (me) and I can get you all the information in one central place. If you have any questions or want to post a message to him feel free to leave it as a comment and I will gather all of them later and paste them into a single email to him later in the day. Well not a good way for us to start our Thanksgiving Cellebration but at least we know our friend & his family are safe and unharmed at the moment.
But HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE, Enjoy the food and your families and be sure to take a few seconds to say a prayer for Harsh & his families safe journey until this thing is over with!

Thank you for your concern and mail. This is not a formal 'thanks' but in such times such words bring comfort and strength. Please pardon me if it seems a bit garbled but am trying to bring you the latest situation in best fashion under the conditions.
The main attack was in Mumbai (old name Bombay) the city where I live. The attacks started around 10 PM last night (here it's 12 noon now) and they attacked several places including 5 star hotels and Leopold, a restaurant popular with foreigners and local young crowd. One of the hotels is the world famous Taj Mahal Hotel which is an old landmark of the city. This Taj should not be confused with the Taj Mahal, the monument which is in Agra. They took hostages (mainly US & British nationals but also others and many Indians) in the hotel and even at a hospital. They also attacked a railway station, a hospital and other places where bombs blew up. Quite a few bombs were found and diffused. A few of them have taken shelter in a building occupied by 4-5 Israel Jew families.
As of now the siege is going on, in brief:
Over 120 people have died and hundreds more injured
Terrorists are still inside Taj, Trident and another building in Colaba
Cops, army, commandos and special forces are working to get situation under control
Some of the hostages were released / managed to escape.
Many people caught in the hotels have managed to get out after being holed out for many hours
Some terrorists have been killed and 5-9 captured
With God's grace, we are all physically safe but badly shaken up mentally - at the thought that they have penetrated our lives to the core. Before, we have had bomb blasts and other such terrorist acts but this is more personal and is still going on after 12 hours. Most of the areas are about 4-5 miles from my house and a mile away from my work place. Two terrorists were killed half a mile away from my house in the night. We were to go for dinner at the Taj but cancelled it in the evening! Some of our friends were in two restaurants at the Taj and managed to get out around 3 am. Another friend was at the Trident and managed to get out at 6 this morning but his friends were taken hostage and are still held in a room there.
That, my friend is the situation. I will try and keep you posted as and when. Some of the Daily friends have commented on this but it may not be possible for me to reply individually so can you please put up my message /status for everyone? Thanks!

A small update:
It's almost 6 pm and the stand-off still continues though it may be - HOPEFULLY - coming to an end at a couple of places. They fear about 200 people may be held at Trident hotel.

I wish you all Happy Thanksgiving. Although we do not follow Thanksgiving, it is time to be thankful for being safe.
It's almost 23 hours since the attack started.
They used AK 47, stun grenades, & regular grenades. It's suspected that they may be from Pakistan.
More stories are coming out - friend's wife was shot in the Taj and had to be operated and is safe now.
A close friend who works at the Taj has lost a few colleagues.
Many people have been 'rescued' from Taj & Trident - people who were holed up there.
The operations may continue through the night.
Police, Armed and special forces' job is difficult as terrorists are using grenades. Two commandos are injured.
The city was almost shut down but hopefully we will return to work tomorrow.
One terrorist may have been caught at Trident.

Appears the terrorists came by a motorized dinghy and landed near the Taj. The Navy with the coast guard have just 'caught' two mother ships near Okha (in state of Gujarat north of here) and they were 'apparently' headed for Karachi (Pakistan) .

Thank you for sharing this message. I was worried, then when your photo from Sri Lanka was posted, I was relieved thinking you were away, now I see you are right there! We will keep an eye on the TV again today ( it is just 7 am here and we are home for the Thanksgiving holiday)
My older son, Andrew, spent 3 month traveling in India 2 years ago and he is quite shaken. At 28 it is really the first time he felt something so personally, as he spent time in that area of Mumbai and knew the hotels and even Club Leopold. He emailed us to look at the New York Times online and the 2nd photo was of the train station..he remembered weighing himself on the scale in the middle of the disheveled area and then calling us from a phone off to the left in the photo before he left for the south of India. It has somehow made it all closer to our own life and knowing you, too! Now he is living in New York and of course we worry that there will be a terrorist attack there again someday. It is so hard to have this kind of bully acts in our world. Why can't there be peace and people just live and let live....

It's past 1 AM and we all are tired after staying up almost all night and then going through the day as news - personal and otherwise came in.
The ordeal seems to be nearing an end is not over yet. Gunshots are still heard from the Taj & Trident. Fire has taken a very heavy toll of our city/ country's icon the Taj Mahal Hotel and it has burnt a deep hole to see it catch fire at different places and times. Most of the hostages from the Taj SEEM to be rescued and quite a few more have been rescued from the Trident. The forces have evacuated houses around the the third place, the Nariman House.
It seems that the forces are waiting for a few hours more by when the terrorists would have been tired and then storm the places.
We only hope tomorrow will start with some positive and peaceful news...

It's a cloudy & dull day here and the situation is almost the same as last night.
It's suspected that there may be 20 to 25 terrorists involved. Some more were killed and some were arrested, one of them may be a Pakistan national.
They have evacuated more people from both the hotels. They suspect a couple of attackers (one wounded and holding a family hostage) are still active at the Taj. At Trident there may be more of them but they are being cornered and the forces are going through each room to 'sanitize' them. At Nariman House they have got 7 members of a Jew family to safety and commandos were dropped from Helicopters on the roofs of nearby building. As the safety of the hostages is most important, the forces are going about very patiently and are hopeful of finishing the operations by evening.
I came to work sometime back to attend to some work and will be closing soon.
