Bill Pador > "Fly Gets a Drink"
While shooting my lilies this fly managed to land on this purple Lilly I was photographing to take a drink from one of the water droplets on the pedal
Bill Pador > "Crystal Love"
This macro shot was inspired after I used this colored light stand for my crystal glass shot a few days ago (see Junes POD gallery). I used the Nikon D300 internal Multiple Exposure program (2 frames) to create this image by taking the Front (right) exposure 1st and then turning the crystal around and sliding it to the left part of the frame for the 2nd shot, the cameras processor then combines the shots internally and the results above are basically straight out of the camera. The only post done on this is the frame border since it really didn't need anything and I was lacking time to do anything further with it LOL.

Shot in total darkness using Tamron 90mm Di f/2.8 1:1 Macro Lens set at:
SS: 1.6 Seconds
AP: f/13
ISO 200
Bill Pador > SIDE NOTE: *6/6/08 This Image along with a few others will be published in the local news paper. I just received a call from the editor & they want these photos for a bear article they will run. It's always nice to be published locally to get some press coverage*

BINGO ! I've been after great bear shots for a while now and I FINALLY got them Today ! Just about an hour ago my oldest daughter phoned me to pick her up from an after school activity. I had been working a set of photos from a party I shot last week and needless to say I was not happy about having to leave the studio. So as I always do i grabbed my D300 which originally had my Tamron 90mm Di Macro lens attached which I was going to leave on it. Something told me to swap it out for my Nikkor 18-200mm VR so I opened my gear bag and swapped lenses.

I am SO glad I did because while leaving the parking lot of the high school I turned the car onto the main road and looked at a tiny lake located 10' off the road and low & behold this GIANT 300+ lb. Black Bear was at the back of the lake approaching some benches. I just charged the batteries in my MB-D10 pack and started cranking off 8 fps on this beast. Having lived in this area for 12+ years I have NEVER seen a bear THIS BIG before and especially one that had no ear tags yet. Needless to say I have a ton of images to go through but I figured I would post a few in my POTD gallery real quick for you to enjoy. I was able to get within 30' of this guy to take the close ups and he never made any aggressive moves toward me thank goodness. What a beautiful creature I must say and I had never been this close to a bear before. I did stay in the door way of my car just in case I had to make a hasty retreat but he was well mannered and just continued to stare at me as much as I was him. He was actually a well mannered model, better then some people I have to deal with LOL.

So I hope you enjoy my bear story and images, I'll post a few more once I go through them to get different angles of this beautiful example of nature at it's best !

Bill Pador > "Sailing to Nowhere"
-Better viewed Large so Click on it-
Today's POD entry comes after several ideas floated through my head about doing something in low light again (a passion of mine). This SHIP IN A BOTTLE is a miniature version about 1/2 the size of a pack of cigarettes and has great detail. A NON Macro capture it was shot with a Nikkor 18-200mm VR Tripod mounted for 2.5 seconds @ f/14 ISO 1000 at a zoom length of 105mm.

Lighting was done in my still life studio accomplished by 2 small Tea Light candles alone, 1 behind left/center approx. 1" away to light the sails giving the Upward angle and keeping the shadows on the front and the other set at front left at 7 O'clock 5" away just to fill the front and continue to keep the shadows I created with the back light for consistent depth & romance.
A small home made tin foil reflector was used at front right at 5 O'clock to fill the rear of the ship ever so slightly. Using this method I was able to get some wonderful shadows off the sails and sail lines along with a beautiful soft light on the ropes on the bottle. Being able to capture the sail lines and texture was a great bonus. It was finished off with 2 small line frames with the color eye dropper taken off the main sails in 2 shades.

Processing was simple with a small dose of unsharp mask and a few dust spots on the bottle removed that are inside the glass that I was unable to clean.

A LOT of planning & execution went into this one so I Hope you like it, I was very excited with the finished product, especially since I racked my brain for hours today trying to create a worthy shot for today's POD. Total time spent on this project: 2 hours
~Bill~
Bill Pador > Well I really didn't have any time to shoot anything for my POD today since I was stuck in the office doing post on a shoot but I did manage to do post on this one that I took a few days ago while fishing. I was on a boat going through the inlet when I shot this multi-million dollar water front home and thought I would share it with you all. The day was very over cast except this little patch of sky and I only had my D70 with me since I can't risk bringing my expensive equipment on a fishing trip. It managed a nice shot after some post boosting the colors and a bit of sharpening but non the less a decent result. Don't you wish we all had money for a home like this ?
Bill Pador > "REFLECTIONS OF LOVE"
This image was taken for a contest entry I submitted today with the theme being 'Feathered Friends' so I decided to post if for my POD as well. These Canadian Geese are all over New Jersey & this lovely pair decided to make their summer home around the corner from my house in a near by pond. Their pretty friendly when it comes to photographing them but don't get too close or they will charge while making an awful barking noise LOL. The lake was as smooth as silk with no wind so I decided to grab this shot with the reflections of the birds almost looking mirror like.

Taken with my:
Nikon D300
Lens: Tamron 90mm Di 1:1 Macro used as a Prime
SS: 1/50
AP: f/5.6
ISO 200
Shot hand held while sitting like an Indian using my knee & elbow contact as a tripod. Not much in the way of PP besides a basic unsharp mask application I do to all my photos and the canvas border, so pretty much straight out of the camera as is.

Hopefully these fine feathered friends will earn me another contest win, keep your fingers crossed.

*ATTN: If anyone of you are members of the www.PhotographyCorner.com would you could please take a minute to cast a vote for me (only registered members can vote - membership is free), It's a great site of you don't belong and they run some really nice contest monthly & throughout the year. "Voting doesn't begin until the 30th" I believe so you have time to register and make 5 posts in order to qualify for voting.
I will place a link RIGHT HERE to the voting page once it's posted.

Thanks ~Bill~
Bill Pador > "BUMBLE BEE @ WORK"
This Bumble Bee was hard at work pollinating flowers this morning while I shot some water drop covered lilies. I was able to capture his wings buzzing at a high rate of speed while he transferred the magic powder to this flower with my Tamron 90mm Macro lens while hand held and rear curtain flash with a -1.7 compensation to stop the wings in flight while still giving it some motion blur.
Bill Pador > "Spinning Psychedelic Crystal Glass"
1 of 2
I had no idea what I wanted to do for POD today but I knew I wanted to mess around with low light subject matter. I started off messing around with some colored straws and went into a totally different direction with this project. I saw some some crystal glasses in my studio from a previous shoot laying there so I started messing around with one. This is the bottom half of a crystal champagne glass sitting on top one of those lit crystal spinning light tables they sell with those laser etched crystal blocks. It resulted in looking like a slow speed ferris wheel image.

Taken using my Tamron 90mm Macro lens tripod mounted:
Shutter Speed 1.6 seconds
AP: f/40
ISO 100 (L1.0)

Shot in RAW (nef) format and then converted to .jpg there is very little post on this image besides a small amount of sharpening and adjusting the black level a tiny amount. That's about it! Enjoy
Check out the shot this inspired by Kre8ive HERE
