 The Oil & Water Challenge...03/17/09
The Challenge:Show us your interpretation of "Oil & Water"
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), The Curious Camel, Karina, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, Johnloguk, MSpencer, Trevlan, FotoEffects, Hillary, and myself.
The Result:I wanted my Interpretation of Water & Oil to look a little different but for good reason. This started out as a simple project of using one of those free giveaways you get at the bank like a sand timer but it has water with green & blue colored oil in it and you flip it over and watch the oil drop to the bottom after being filtered through a small hole. I took a few macro shots of that which started off looking just like most of you who have glasses with oil & water in them and then headed into CS3. By the time I was finished I went for a creation to make the oil & water look like Old Faded Graffiti on a wall in the shape of the old 'CRAZY 8 BALL" that you used to make wishes or ask questions over when we were kids and that contained oil & water to make the answer block float around in it. All the color circles you see are the oil falling downward in front of the lens which made this pattern of colored circles and then I laid out a bunch of layers with different textures and a brick wall and used some creative techniques to get the final effect & look. I also inlaid some shapes and faint faded writing too. Well this is one way to make Oil & Water stick to a wall right!

Bill Pador > "My 2nd FAVORITE SUNSET of ALL Time"
This Sunset taken in East Hanover NJ on 3-23-08 along Rt. #280 East is Hands Down my ALL TIME FAVORITE Sunset that I've ever captured on film. I was driving west on Rt. #280 when I looked to the left for some reason and through this little hole in the wood line I saw this scene. I immediately took the off ramp and made a U-Turn to drive to the access road next to the woods so I could find a place to park and run into the woods before it disappeared. If you've sat & watched a sunset before you know how FAST they can leave, not in it's entirety but just those few magical moments every photographer dreams of where the light is just perfect and the conditions just right for an image like this and then PUFF it's gone. It could be a mear 60-90 seconds so you have to grab your gear and take the shot. Unfortunately I didn't have a tripod in my trunk for some reason (I usually have 2 or 3 in there) so I had to make due with bracing myself against a tree and engaging the VR (*Vibration Reduction) function on my lens to help me out with the long shutter speed I would need for this shot to get the colors just right. I clicked off a few frames and then it was gone, just like that! You could actually see the difference in color hue from frame to frame as the light changed it happened that fast.

As I walked back to the car I started to check out what I had on my 962,000 pixel LCD and what I saw was amazing to me. I couldn't wait to get home to see it on my high def. monitor in the studio. So here it was in all it's glory, my 2nd favorite sunset, to me simply MAGICAL !

Bill Pador > Not knowing what I was going to do for my POTD shot tonight mother nature helped me make my decision by creating a small lightning storm for me to shoot. I went out to my back deck, set up for a 20 second shot @ f/11 ISO 800 and just kept pressing the shutter button every 20 sec. I was able to grab 2 really good shots in 30 or so hanging out in the rain with my umbrella over my gear. (my neighbor yelled to me that I was crazy go inside LOL)

This is image 2 of 2 so be sure to check the Other Lightning Strike, it's even better then this one IMO.
